A REMEMBRANCE Sunday event will go ahead as planned, despite construction works.

Cheshire West and Chester Council has confirmed that Remembrance events will take place in Winsford town centre this year.

This comes as work continues on the £22 million regeneration of the town centre, with several buildings being demolished and new offices and a 168-space car park being constructed.

Councillor Nathan Pardoe, cabinet member for inclusive economy, regeneration and digital transformation, said: “There is lots going on in Winsford, and as development on the town centre continues there is a real sense of excitement and anticipation.

“The redevelopment will deliver a town centre that Winsford can be proud of, and which vastly improves on what is there today.

“Remembrance Sunday is an important event to the people of Winsford, which is why Cheshire West and Chester Council has maintained safe access to the memorials during construction works despite the additional cost and complexity.

“The council is working with partners and plans are in place to ensure Remembrance events can take place this year.”

Cheshire West and Chester Council has held talks with the Royal British Legion and Winsford Town Council to help facilitate the event.

The town centre generation will also see improvements made to walking and cycling access, the creation of a dedicated cycle storage and new open public spaces which will host pop-ups, events and visiting attractions.

Meanwhile, the town centre war memorials will undergo a refurbishment and be relocated in the first half of 2024.

Councillor Pardoe added: “The refurbishment and relocation of the war memorials means that in future years the people of Winsford will benefit from more open space and improved access to the memorials as they pay their respects to those who made the greatest sacrifice.”
