NATIONWIDE has opened at a new location in Winsford.

The building society departed its former home on Dene Drive in August amid the multi-million pound regeneration of the town centre.

It is now up and running at Winsford Cross Shopping Centre and MP for Eddisbury Edward Timpson has welcomed the move and urged other companies to follow suit.

He said: “It was great to visit the Nationwide Building Society team in Winsford and hear about their work to support local people.

“I’m glad to see a large banking brand like Nationwide re-commit to the high street and local communities at a time when major banks are closing a significant numbers of branches up and down the country.

“More firms should follow the example Nationwide sets, and promise not to leave the high street behind.”

Nationwide’s former branch, at 3 Dene Drive, closed for good on Monday, August 7.

Work is now taking place to demolish the site as part of Winsford’s regeneration which will result in the construction of new spaces for businesses as well as a 168-space car park and improvements to walking and cycling facilities.
