POLICE are investigating a potential arson attack in Davenham.

Emergency services were called to reports of a car fire in the early hours of this morning.

Cheshire Police joined firefighters near Peckmill Scout Wood on London Road shortly before 1am to find a car 'well alight'.

It is believed the blaze was started on purpose, prompting police to launch an investigation.

A spokesperson for the force said: “At 12.44am on Tuesday, April 23, police were called to reports of a car fire near to Peckmill Scout Wood, on London Road, Davenham.

“Initial enquiries suggest that the cause of the fire is deliberate, and an investigation has been launched.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 or visit www.cheshire.police.uk quoting IML 1806598.”

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “Firefighters were called to a car that was well alight in Northwich.

“They used a hose reel to put the fire out and to cool the vehicle.

“Police also attended this incident.”

The incident in Davenham came less than an hour after a car fire in Winsford.

Firefighters were called to Esk Road shortly before 11pm, being joined by police soon after.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “At 12.16am on Tuesday, April 23, police were made aware of a car fire on Esk Road, Winsford.

“Officers attended and enquiries in relation to the cause of the fire are ongoing.”

One fire engine from the Winsford station attended the scene, with firefighters using a hose reel to extinguish the flames.
