PRIMARY schoolchildren are celebrating after successfully demonstrating their 'remarkable' oratory skills.
Pupils from Eaton Primary School, near Winsford, undertook a series of Oracy exams, to test their ability to articulate ideas and engage with others.
Conducted by examiners from the English Speaking Board (ESB), the assessments took place over three days last month and encompassed students from various year groups.
Year five and six pupils took on individual grade one exams, while year four students tackled entry-level assessments. Year two and three children joined for a group evaluation.
Lorraine Skellon, the head of school at Eaton Primary, emphasised the institution's commitment to equipping children with essential life skills.
She said: "At Eaton Primary, we firmly believe in preparing our students for life by fostering confidence, enriching vocabulary, and refining public speaking skills.
"These Oracy exams are a testament to that commitment."
Each segment of the examination gauged the students' proficiency in different aspects of oration, including reciting a poem, delivering prose, and presenting a speech on a topic of their choosing.
Additionally, their listening and questioning abilities were put to the test.
An Eaton Primary School spokesman added: "The students poured their efforts into honing their speaking abilities under the guidance of their dedicated teachers who coached them in delivery techniques.
"Despite the challenges, the children embraced the opportunity wholeheartedly and exhibited remarkable confidence throughout the process.
"Upon completion of the exams, each student receives a grade, personalised feedback from the examiners, and an appropriate certificate acknowledging their achievements.
"The school anticipates this experience will serve as a foundation for many pupils to pursue higher grades in the future."
Mrs Skellon added: "We are thrilled to have provided our students with this enriching opportunity
"The enthusiasm and dedication they displayed while preparing for the exams were truly commendable. We take immense pride in witnessing our pupils grow into confident and eloquent communicators."
