CALLUM Grassby will head out to America in buoyant mood to contest the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation World Championships.

Competing under Gracie Barra, Northwich, at the weekend the former Knutsford Academy student won the British Open for a second successive year in the adult purple belt division.

He saw off a bracket of seven competitors to win by decision in the final.

Since entering the adult division, he has competed in three successive years, winning  silver, gold and gold and is still only 19 years old.

He now travels out to California to compete against the best in the world between June 1 and 4.

The Northwich club also achieved success through Chris Hickey taking silver in the blue-belt masters one competition, and Arron McCombie clinching gold in the masters one purple-belt division.

Gracie Barra, Northwich, has been open for a little more than a year and so producing champions at this level so quickly is a testament to its professors, coaches and students.
